The Big Year is essentially a comedy about competitive bird watching…well not really. Steve Martin, Jack Black and Owen Wilson star as three men at a crossroads in their lives.

In order to shake things up – and follow their dreams as diehard bird watchers – they race to locate the rarest birds in North America at a huge yearly event.

Footloose is a remake of the 1984 flick starring Kevin Bacon. In this version Ren McCormack (Kenny Wormaid) is moved to a small town where, after a tragic accident, rock and roll music and dancing have been banned. Naturally, Ren means to change things.

Just focus in on the dancing not the hackneyed story and have a good time.

The Thing is yet another remake of the classic horror film from 1951 that starred James Arness (Marshall Dillon on Gunsmoke) as the monster.

The pic was remade in 1982 and starred Kurt Russell as the hero – not the monster. It was a much bloodier flick thanks to horror Director John Carpenter.

Now this updated version is still set in Antarctica at a research facility and yes there is an alien craft discovery, but this time paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) is leading the charge against the bloodthirsty organism.

It’s certainly interesting to watch as Universal Picture cannibalizes its already cannibalized classics.
