JERRY LEWIS RETIRING FROM MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY TELETHON AFTER 45 YEARS

Jerry Lewis interviewed by Mari Cartel

After nearly half a century of hosting the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s Labor Day telethon, 85-year-old Jerry Lewis is retiring.

Lewis says he’ll make his final showing for this September 4 six-hour MDA telethon by singing his You’ll Never Walk Alone for his kids.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association has raised hundreds of millions of dollars from Lewis’ telethon shows that began as a local New York City TV event in 1966. Last year alone brought in $59 million.

Lewis will remain the MDA national chairman.
